Roderick's expertise places a particular emphasis on disciplinary enquiries and appeals before the Disciplinary Panel and Appeal Board of the British Horseracing Authority, representing jockeys, trainers, owners and all persons licensed or subject to the jurisdiction of the British Horseracing Authority.  He also regularly appears before the Licensing Committee of the BHA.

In recent years, he has become one of the "go to" barristers for those accused of breaches of the Rules of Racing for advice and representation, and has reperesented some of the very biggest names in the sport; he has been instructed in many of the most significant and high profile cases, including those concerning:

  • lay-betting
  • race fixing and corruption
  • doping
  • running and riding
  • horse welfare
  • the bringing of racing into disrepute

Roderick's experience and profile is such that he was consulted by the BHA as part of the Quinlan Review into the sport's disciplinary processes, and also on issues concerning the re-drawing of the Rules of Racing in relation to disclosure in disciplinary cases, doping and running and riding.

The Chambers and Partners Guide to the Legal Profession has referred to Roderick's "unique knowledg of the racing and bloodstock sector".

Roderick worked in racing when a student and remains an avid fan. He is natural and accomplished horseman, a former Master of Foxhounds and keen rider to hounds on Exmoor and elsewhere.  All his horses are ex racehorses that he has successfully re-homed. He is regularly able to put this knowledge and experience to good use when representing licensed individuals.
